Martha May (nee: Copus) Calame Martin
ORRVILLE — Martha May (nee: Copus) Calame Martin was born near Jeromesville, Ohio in 1929 to Frank and Lottie Copus. As a teenager she moved to the Wooster area where she later met and married George Calame. George and Martha were active members of the Wooster Foursquare Church, where Martha taught the kindergarten age Sunday School class for 39 years. Martha was a faithful employee for Buckeye Container of Wooster, where she received several attendance awards, and retired just prior to 25 years of employment.
After George’s passing in 1968, Martha later married Roy Martin, of Orrville, Ohio. Martha liked growing different varieties of daffodils and irises, that she would see on their trips to Kingwood Center. She took a basket weaving class and made baskets for family and friends, as well as herself. At Christmastime, Martha made goodie bags of candies and Chex mix, and loaves of pumpkin bread for all the neighbors and Christmas carolers that happened to drop in. Roy and Martha loved the farm, but knew they needed to be in Georgia to get the extra care that only family can give. Both Roy and Martha were residing in Georgia at the time of their deaths.
Martha was preceded in death by her husbands; father; mother; three brothers; a sister; and a step son. Surviving her are three sons; a daughter; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. Although some of these were adopted and others came to her through her marriage to Roy, she loved them all the same.
Martha’s greatest heart’s desire was for all of her family to know her Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, and to live for Him while on this earth.
Jesus said to her, ”I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.” John 11:25-26.
