DALTON  Rod Weaver, who works locally, was driving along, minding his own business when he was pulled over by a Dalton police officer last month around the holidays.

Much to his surprise, Dalton Police Captain Eric McFarren wasn’t running his license plate nor getting ready to issue him a citation.

He was dropping off some gift certificates donated by local businesses and issuing him a note from the Dalton Police Department – for obeying the law.

Weaver sent in a photo to The Dalton Gazette & Kidron News and said he “Just wanted to acknowledge how awesome the Dalton Police department is!”

For the first time, the Dalton Police Department and Shady Lawn partnered to provide the program in December to reward motorists for obeying traffic laws. Chief Ryan Pearson told village council at the December regular council meeting about the program as a positive reinforcement in the community and Shady Lawn accepted donations from residents and businesses in November and the beginning of December.

Weaver was surprised and grateful.

“I just thought it was so great what they are doing,” he wrote to The DGKN.
