Dalton Historical Society welcomes new members in 2022
DALTON Interested in the history of your town?
Anyone is welcome to join members at the Dalton Community Historical Society and learn the history of local businesses, facts about town that you may not know, famous people who have visited and stayed here, and many, many stories about the town.
How did Dalton get its name? When was it established? How many fires has the town had? The types of businesses that decided to put down roots in our town. There are many stories to be told and lots of things that have gone on in the town of Dalton and some stories are very fascinating to history lovers, residents and visitors, according to historical society president Vickie Menges.
If interested in joining, you can come to any of our open houses which are being held on the first Sunday of each month, 115 E Main St., or contact a current member and discuss it with them.
Alexander Randolf and Experience Freeman are grandparents of mine, as were Rev James and Margaret (McClellan) Adams. Alexander and Experience had several children, and I’m a direct descendant of their son John McClellan Freeman.
I would love pictures (copies of), writings of, or any other info you can share with of these family members. The Wayne Co. Library already has shared with me some of the history documented in two or three books.
Well done in having this lovely museum. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to see it in person due to where I live — not in the USA and our borders are pretty much closed right now. If there’s any way I can help you, please let me know.
Is the museum what was once the “Freeman Tavern”? Someone had sent me a photo of it and said it was an update of what was once that tavern/way house for travelers. If so, then I’m very honored.
Is there a fee to be a member? I do want to be.
I am interested.
I’m interested! Let me know if there is any charge or a form I need to fill out. Thanks!
