Wagner, Marguerite M.

Orrville — Marguerite M. Wagner, age 87, of Orrville, Ohio, died surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Aultman Hospital in Canton.

Marguerite was born October 10, 1934, in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Harry and Theresa (Taylor) Mershimer and graduated from Seminary High School in Poland, Ohio and Westminster College, in New Wilmington, PA. She married Richard S. Wagner on August 17, 1957, in Poland, Ohio. This past year they celebrated their 64th anniversary.
She worked for the Orrville City School System for 30 years as an educator, music teacher, and later as director of the Adult Basic Literacy Program, retiring in 1993.
Marguerite was a devout follower of the Lord, a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, attended and led many bible studies, and enjoyed sharing her faith with all. Marguerite loved spending time with her family and traveling with her husband. She was a member of the Silver Trowel Garden Club, United Methodist Women, Tri-Arts, and Nomads. She was the 1987 Orrville Paul Powell Citizen of the Year. She was an accomplished artist, and pianist. She was a Master Gardener and planned all the landscaping for the Every Women’s House (currently OneEighty, Inc.) and Every Men’s House (currently Pathways) in Wooster. With everything she did she brought a great deal of energy and enthusiasm.
Surviving are her husband, Richard; three children, Richard (Barbara) Wagner II of Loveland, Ohio, Dr. Douglas (Rebecca) Wagner of Granville, Ohio, Katherine (Matthew) Wince of Sunbury, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Michael Wagner, Connor Wagner, Caroline Wagner, Caitlin (William) Zillman, Andrew Wagner (fiancée Madeline Kleinman), Samuel Wagner, Olivia Wince (fiancé Luke Peterson), Elijah Wince, Isaiah Wince, and Evelyn Wince; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brother, John A. Mershimer, and sister, Lyla L. Pilorusso.
Calling hours are Friday, February 18, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1556 Rex Drive, Orrville, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, Febuary 19, 2022 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. David Rittgers officiating. Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville. Masks are encouraged but not mandatory.
