Immler, David L.
David L. Immler, age 86, passed away in the early morning hours of Feb. 12, 2022. David, known to his close friends as Dave, resided at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Barberton for 14 months following a surgery in December 2020 that left him with dementia. His condition gradually worsened, but he made the most of his periods of clarity with visiting family members.
The youngest of five children, Dave was born Nov. 7, 1935 in Norton, Ohio, to Fred and Ethel Immler. He graduated from Norton High School in 1954, and served as a member of the United States Air Force Reserves.
Dave married Arline (Metzel) Immler on June 27, 1964. For 34 years, Dave worked for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Akron as a lab technician. He retired from Goodyear in the mid-1980s.
Dave always kept himself busy, and he stayed active in his retirement when he began working with his son, Kurt, at Ohio Billiards in Canton, Ohio in the mid-1990s. Dave returned to work part-time with his wife at a gameroom in Dalton, Ohio, in the early 2000s. He finally permanently retired in 2010.
Never expecting anything in return, Dave found joy in helping others. He spent time tending to his lawn and garden, and he also was an avid reader. He enjoyed conversations with his friends over a cup of coffee at local restaurants and coffee shops. Dave will be remembered for helping so many people in his life: family, friends and acquaintances. He was very kind to people. He will be deeply missed.
Dave is survived by his wife of 58 years, Arline Immler. Over the past 14 months, every day that visitation was permitted at the nursing home, Arline was there bringing her husband his favorite home-cooked meals and snacks. She occasionally picked up some of his favorite treats from McDonald*s, Dee’s Diner, and his beloved cream sticks from Leach’s.
Also surviving are children: Susan Kish (Mikel), of Seminole, FL, Nancy Rosenberger (Dale Eldridge), of White Oak, NC, Kurt Immler (Heather) of Dalton; grandchildren, Eric Legge, of Seminole, FL, Melissa Geltz (Andrew), of Orlando, FL, Michael Martinez, of Columbus, OH, Dalton Immler, and Owen Thomas, both of Dalton; one sister, Elaine Puskar, who resides at Pleasant View Nursing Home.
David was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Immler, of Wadsworth, Mary Gauger, of New York, and Martha Hampton, of Wadsworth.
Cox-McNulty Funeral Home is handling arrangements. There will be no calling hours or funeral service at this time. Entombment has taken place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Akron, Ohio. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Remembrances and condolences may be shared on the tribute wall at www.coxfuneralhomeinc.com.
I lost another friend…..so sad and yet so blessed to know that Dave isn’t suffering. I know that he has been welcomed by all that preceded him.
All my love to the entire Immler family. God bless all of you and give you all peace and comfort
