Hewitt, Rodney M.
Rodney M. Hewitt, 86, of Kidron, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Aultman Hospital in Canton.
He was born in Mount Eaton on December 3, 1935 to the late Clifton H. and Lena A. (Combs) Hewitt and married Colleen J. Nussbaum on May 20, 1956 and she survives.
Rod attended Bluffton University and graduated from Ashland University. He taught at Grant Street Elementary in Wooster for two years and retired from Dalton Local Schools having taught at Kidron Elementary for 30 years.
He was a member of Salem Mennonite Church near Kidron and enjoyed bicycling in his later years.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, Colleen, he is survived by children Jeff Hewitt of Glenmont, OH, Nanette (Jedd) Sprunger of Kidron, Anita Hewitt of Mansfield and Matt (Elvira) Hewitt of Mesquite, NV; grandsons, Grant Sprunger of Portland, OR and Ryan (Colleen) Sprunger of Dalton; a great grandson Haydn Sprunger; sisters, Audrey (Harold) Conkle of Millersburg and Gloria Winkler of Mount Eaton; a brother, Gordon (Bonnie) Hewitt of Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Sharon Hewitt and Violet Snyder; and brothers, Clayton and Curtis.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am at the Salem Mennonite Church, 3363 Zuercher Road, Kidron, with Pastor Kevin Himes officiating. Family graveside services will be held prior in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 pm at the church. Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton is handling the arrangements.

The family would like to thank Rodney and Colleen’s wonderful and caring neighbors for all of their help the last couple of years.
