DALTON  With two games of the 2022 season in the books, Dalton High School’s varsity baseball team has not given up a run. The Dawgs shut out Chippewa in two games as Dalton started the season 2-0.

After inclement spring weather delayed the start of the season, Dalton was able to take the field at home against Chippewa March 30.

The Dawgs one-hit the Chipps during their 11-0 win. Dalton put one run on the board in the first inning and they capitalized on errors from Chippewa in the second inning to plate six runs. The Dawgs scored three runs in the third inning, which was highlighted by a two-run single by Cade Mullet. Grant Johnson hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to make the score 11-0 and shut the door on the Chipps.

Isaac Wengerd was the winning pitcher. He gave up one hit and two walks while striking out 10 Chipps in four innings of work.

It was a new location when Dalton traveled to Chippewa Mar. 31, but the result was the same, as the Dawgs shut out the Chipps 10-0. Dalton led off the first inning by scoring two runs.

They took advantage of some missteps from Chippewa in the second to add four more runs.

Three more Dalton runners came across the plate in the third inning. Kole Miller drew a bases- loaded walk in the fifth inning to plate Dalton’s 10th run of the game.

Justin Basinger received the win. He gave up two hits and one walk in four innings of work. He also recorded six strikeouts.
