Two teens die in dirt bike crash in Salt Creek Twp.
SALT CREEK TWP. A 16-year-old and his 15-year-old passenger were ejected from a dirt bike Tuesday afternoon when they collided with a vehicle at an intersection. The driver of the dirt bike was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passenger was transported by South Central Fire Department to a landing zone where he was later flown by Life Flight to Akron Children’s Hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Akron Children’s Hospital.
Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the two-vehicle crash that occurred at 3:38 p.m. at Criswell Road and Salt Creek Road in Salt Creek Township in Wayne County, according to a news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol.
The crash involved a gray 2017 Chrysler Pacifica and an orange and white 2004 Honda CRF250R dirt bike. Initial investigation revealed the driver of the Pacifica was westbound on Salt Creek Road and failed to yield from the stop sign and was struck by the juvenile driver traveling northbound on Criswell Road.
The Wayne County Coroner’s Office and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. The driver and passenger of the dirt bike were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
