Massillon motorcyclist killed in two-vehicle Chippewa Twp. crash

CHIPPEWA TOWNSHIP  A Massillon man was killed Saturday at State Route 57 and County Road 27 in Chippewa Township when the 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle he was driving collided with a cabover truck.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the two-vehicle fatal crash.

Initial investigation revealed a white 2000 Isuzu NPR cabover truck driven by Wesley R. Weirick, 44, of Rittman, was traveling south on S.R. 57 attempting to turn left on to C.R. 27, according to a news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol. The motorcycle driven by Scott E. Kemp, 50, of Massillon, was traveling north on S.R. 57 and struck the cabover truck. After impact, Kemp was thrown from the motorcycle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wayne County Coroners Office.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. At this time, it does not appear that Kemp was wearing a helmet at the time of crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Marshallville Police Department, East Wayne Fire/EMS, Rittman Fire/EMS, and the Chippewa Township Fire/EMS Departments.

The crash remains under investigation.
