What do you love about working at Dalton Local Schools?
My favorite part of working at Dalton is the kids! I love to interact with the students. I also really enjoy watching the students progress. It just amazes me how fast the students learn things. One thing I really love is when a student struggles with a topic and all of a sudden a light clicks and they start to understand. Another thing I love about Dalton is my co-workers. Everyone who works at Dalton is part of a family.

How did you get to where you are today? I was born and raised in Michigan. I was a graduate of Michigan State Univer-sity. I received a bachelor’s degree in Merchandising Man-agement. That led me to move to Chicago after graduation. I worked in retail for several years and realized I didn’t like it. I then met my husband and moved to Dalton. Once I had my two boys, I started volunteering in the school and really liked it. I applied to be a substitute teacher and worked in that role for several years. Once a position opened up to be a teacher’s assistant, I applied for the position and started working at Dalton. I have been in this position for 3 years now.

What is something about yourself people may be surprised to hear? I was a pretty good runner in high school. I lost a bet to my basketball coach and had to go out for track. I really didn’t think I would like running, but I found out I did. In my junior year, I broke our school record for the mile run. I am still on the record board since they don’t run the mile anymore. I also qualified for the State track meet. I was in a Division I school, so I did not do very well at State. I look at some of the students that have qualified for state and I really hope they enjoy every minute of it. Win or lose, it is an experience that you will never forget, so enjoy it.
