Evacuation, shelter-in-place order lifted Saturday

DGKN staff report
DALTON An evacuation and shelter-in-place order was lifted by 7 a.m. Saturday. People continued to be asked to avoid the area of MARS Horsecare.
An evacuation zone of 1,000 feet from MARS Horsecare, 330 E Schultz Ave., Dalton, was established Friday night and a shelter in place order was for those outside of the 1,000 feet evacuation zone but within 3,000 feet of the incident, according to a news release from Dalton Mayor Dennis Finley.

At about 2:30 p.m. Friday, East Wayne Fire District was dispatched to MARS Horsecare for a fire in a feed bin. Upon arrival, crews found active fire in an elevated feed bin inside the structure, the release states. Because of the potential hazards, multiple mutual aid departments were requested from Wayne and surrounding counties.  Fire officials have worked closely with industry experts and determined the best course of action was to evacuate the immediate area.  An evacuation zone of 1000 feet from the incident location was established, and law enforcement assisted in notification.  Additionally, a shelter in place order was extended for those outside of the 1,000 feet evacuation zone, but within 3000 feet of the incident.
