The weather could not have been more perfect and a comforting breeze seemed to blow through as Janine Ramer’s No. 17 jersey was retired July 12 during the dedication of Dalton’s new softball field.

Howard J. Wenger and his family were welcomed and thanked at the beginning of the new softball field dedication near downtown Dalton by Superintendent Jim Saxer for all of their contributions to make the “field of dreams” a reality. Saxer also thanked other donors for making the field possible.

Alumnae from previous years came to play the current Lady Dawgs softball team and players and the crowd had a ball. Young children in the crowd were heard cheering on their teachers and moms and other alumna who came out. In the fourth inning,

Flo and Keith Ramer and family and friends spoke about the teen with the big heart and love for God who wanted to be a softball coach one day. Janine Ramer died in a traffic crash in 2003. Her spirit continues to inspire people.
