Local children enjoy the popular train rides and games at a previous Kidron Fun Night.
KIDRON A traditional family-friendly event with old-fashioned games, softball, food and more returns to this community this year with fun beginning at 6 p.m. July 19.
All the favorite activities return to Kidron Community Park including the annual softball game, and games for all ages including sack races, candy drop, water balloon toss, tug-of-war, and a straw pile for younger children.
Yoder Veal will provide food and Kidron Volunteer Fire Department will provide refreshments and will have a truck for people to check out. The popular little train for children will give rides.
The event is on the heels of last month’s Kidron Days, the two-day event put on by the Kidron Merchants and the Kidron Community Council.
Jacob Troyer, president of the council said this year’s Kidron Days was bigger than ever. The two-day event last month included sales, specials and activities at Kidron businesses, community garage and yard sales, a 5K/10K run/walk and a benefit meal to help support a local family.
“It went very well,” he said. “It was a perfect weekend for it. We had a lot of runners. Everybody enjoyed the route. We had the run through the fields. It was a very good turnout and the benefit meal afterward had a good turnout. Everything worked out good and we had a good weekend for it.”
The garage sales also went extremely well, Troyer said. The council had a map as well as an app that people could scan to see where all the garage sales were located. They hope to build on the event year after year, he said.
The Kidron Days helps to raise some money for the community council for events such as next week’s Kidron Fun Night, which serves as an annual celebration in the community. Anyone is welcome to sponsor an event and businesses have donated door prizes.
The active Kidron Community Council also offers an Easter Egg Hunt in the spring and at the end of the year organizes an annual United Fund Drive for individuals and businesses to donate to help families in need.
