Mast, Emma K.

ORRVILLE – Emma K. Mast, age 83, of Orrville, passed away peacefully on the evening of August 6, 2022 at her home following a brief battle with cancer.
Emma was born December 25, 1938 near Elizabethtown, PA to the late Carl and Helen (Nissley) Stonesifer. She attended Kraybill’s Mennonite School.  In 1962 she went to Eureka, IL to serve in Voluntary Service for a summer.  A year later she came to Wayne County to work at the Mennonite Home south of Rittman and it was there that she met William (Bill) Hoke.  They were married November 28, 1964. Bill passed away May 12, 2003.
Emma married Elvin D. Mast on October 8, 2005.  She is survived by Elvin.
Emma was a homemaker and a housekeeper.  Although she did not have any children of her own, she nurtured and provided childcare for over 30 children during a span of 36 years, including multiple generations of children.  She also enjoyed gardening and her beloved pets.
Emma was a member of the Crown Hill Mennonite Church and faithfully participated in the Women Serving Christ group where she helped knot many comforters.
In addition to her husband, Elvin, she is survived by her sister Anna Ruth Wine; three nieces, Joy Smith, Anne Fisher and Karla Bear; four nephews, Glen Stonesifer, Mark Stonesifer, Will Wine and Phil Wine; numerous extended family; step-children, Cheryl Mast, Ed (Sara) Mast, Dave (Connie) Mast and Kathy (Mark) Gerber; ten step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; and several life-long friends
In addition to her parents and her first husband, she was proceeded in death by her brother Carl Stonesifer, sister-in-law Grace Stonesifer, and brother-in-law Jesse Wine.
Visitation will be Friday, August 12 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Smithville Mennonite Church, 6097 Akron Rd, Smithville, followed by a private burial service at Crown Hill Mennonite Church Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Smithville Mennonite, with Pastor Todd Martin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting that contributions be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 21 South 12th St., PO Box 500, Akron, PA, 17501-0500 or Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare of Wayne County, 1900 Akron Rd., Wooster, OH 44691.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to care-giver, Jackie Spangler and the wonderful team at Ohio’s LifeCare Hospice of Wayne County.
