Erwin, Emogene

Orrville — Emogene Erwin, age 98, of Orrville, died Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at OrrVilla.
Emogene was born on February 5, 1924, in Mount Eaton, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Elsie (Matter) Thompson. She married Wade J. Erwin on November 7, 1946, in Orrville at Christ United Church of Christ by the Rev. Otto Gerber. Wade died on April 29, 1995.
She attended Oak Street School, graduated from Orrville High School in 1941 and later attended Wooster Business College. She worked at JC Penny Company in Orrville as a bookkeeper and cashier.
Emogene was a lifelong member of Christ United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 80 years, and is the past president of the organization. Emogene was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Troop Leader for her children’s troops. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, puzzles, and various activities at OrrVilla. Emogene loved dogs, but most of all she cherished spending time with her family.
Surviving are son, Ron Erwin; daughter, Margaret Mangano; two grandchildren, Christina (Scott Mackenzie) Mangano, and Antonio Mangano; and great grandchildren, Caroline, William, and Penelope Mackenzie.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Mary Ellen Hanna; brother, John Thompson; and son-in-law, Frank Mangano.
There will be a Celebration of Life planned for a later date.
