HS CROSS COUNTRY: Dalton boys, girls take top spot at Newcomerstown

On a humid, late summer day, Dalton High School’s boys and girls cross country teams brought their own heat at the Newcomerstown Invitational Sept. 3 when both teams won their respective races in the small school division.
For the girls race, Dalton (22:03.20) placed first, followed by Ridgewood (22:34.90) in second place and Barnesville (23:00.77) in third place. Emberlynn Nolt finished first for Dalton and she won the individual race with a time of 20:15.51.
Samantha Thiel (21:40.56) came in eighth overall. Brianna Chenevey (22:19.59) placed 12th overall. Myah Lehman (22:50.55) finished in 18th place. Ava Fivecoat (23:09.80) rounded out Dalton’s top five with a 20th overall finish.
On the boys side, Dalton won the team standings with a time of 18:20.23. Barnesville (18:46.71) came in second place and East Knox (18:47.26) finished third. Carson Steiner was Dalton’s top finisher. His time of 17:11.15 earned him a second-place finish overall.
Caleb Hofstetter (17:44.77) placed fourth overall. Ely Hutson (18:24.07) came in ninth place. Jacob Fink (18:56.70) placed 16th overall. Judah Hershberger (19:24.48) finished fifth for Dalton and 21st overall.
