Barbara J. Miller, 68, of Dalton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 23, 2022.
She was born in Dover on February 14, 1954, to the late James R. and Judith (Ralston) DeVore and married Lester A. Miller on May 5, 1979 and he survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by children, Shannon (Daniel) Helfinstine and their son Logan of Stow and Andrew Miller of Akron; brothers, Jon (Ella) DeVore of Dover and Jamie (Lisa) DeVore of Girard, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James “Jimmy” C. DeVore.
After earning her bachelor’s degree from Kent State University, Barb taught preschool and enjoyed many years teaching Sunday and Bible school at Kidron Mennonite Church.
Devoted to her Christian faith, though open to all religions, she always put family first. Barb was a great supporter of her brothers’, then her children’s and many nieces’ and nephews’ sporting events. She loved watching all sports, especially football.
Barb instilled a love of reading with her children and enjoyed everything from daily devotionals to Danielle Steel novels, as well as watching Turner Classic Movies, and all movies by her favorite actor, Johnny Depp.
She found joy being a grandma to her grandson as well as taking care of the many dogs and stray cats that found their way into her home on the hill.
Barb was a friend to all who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Take comfort that she is finally at peace.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 6:00 PM at Kidron Mennonite Church, Kidron, Ohio with Pastor Carl Wiebe officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Building of the Church.
