For the second year in a row, Dalton’s varsity golf team is heading to Columbus for the Ohio High School Athletic Association state tournament.

The golf team finished first at the district tournament Oct. 6 at Tannenhauf and will be playing in the state tournament Oct. 14 and 15 at North Star in Columbus. John F. Kennedy and Cardinal Mooney also qualified for the Div. III state tournament.

“The team played very well at the district tournament,” said varsity golf coach Jeff Feller. “They stayed focused through all 18 holes which was good to see. The players are excited to be going to state for the second year in a row and are focused on preparing for the two-day tournament.”

Dalton senior Jaden Schlabach was the tournament medalist with a 76. Brendan Lehman and Todd Brahler each scored 83, Zach Brahler scored 85 and Isaac Mori scored 98.

“Going into the tournament we knew there were a lot of good teams,” Schlabach wrote in an email. “So we prepared as well as we could. The course played tough with fast greens and demanding tee shots but we stayed focused and were able to come out on top!”

Schlabach returns to the state finals with Todd Brahler, and Brendan Lehman. This year they are joined by Brahler’s brother, Zach, Isaac Mori, Evan Shisler and Keller McFarren.

“Our team is very excited to get to state and compete again,” Schlabach wrote in an email. “Last year we didn’t have the finish we wanted so having the opportunity again is very special. This year we play at Northstar which is a lot different course than OSU Scarlet where we played last year. We got to play in an invitational tournament there earlier this season so we at least know the track of the course. We are hoping for good conditions and great results.”
