KILLBUCK SAVINGS BANK CO. SUPERSTAR ON STAFF: Darren Gerber
Darren Gerber
Dalton 4th grade teacher
1. What do you love about working at Dalton Local Schools?
The reason why I love teaching at Dalton is the culture. The Dalton and Kidron communities have deep roots in faith, working hard, holding each other accountable, and giving grace when needed. These values can be seen in the administration, teachers and students, which makes me proud to say I work for Dalton Local Schools.
2. How did you get to where you are today?
After graduating high school, I was unsure of my career path so I took a year off. I ended up coaching freshman basketball at Central Christian and found my love for teaching. I graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University with my bachelor’s degree and received my master’s degree from Malone University. I found a teaching position at Wooster Christian School 4 days before the school year started. I taught and coached basketball there for four years before coming to Dalton Local. I have now been teaching/coaching here at Dalton for the past eight years.
3. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself that people would be surprised to hear.
In my spare time, I enjoy wood carving. I learned to appreciate wood carving from my grandpa as it was his hobby as well. I also train and run a half marathon every summer.
