Dorothy Marie Shoup, 90
Orrville — Dorothy Marie Shoup, age 90, of Orrville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Aultman Hospital in Canton, following a period of declining health.
Dorothy was born on May 15, 1932 in Orrville, Ohio, to the late Earl and Elizabeth (Amstutz) Steiner and graduated from Doylestown High School in 1950. She married William “Bill” E. Shoup on November 3, 1957 in Orrville and recently celebrated 65 years together. Dorothy was a homemaker and took pride in making her house a home.
Dorothy was a member of Orrville Christian Church where she served in various capacities through the years and participated in the Growing Christians Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Southside Christian Church in Sarasota, FL while at her winter home. Dorothy volunteered at Dunlap Hospital for over 25 years. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and was an excellent cook. She and Bill traveled throughout North America including all 50 states as well as Canada and Mexico. They also visited Australia, New Zealand and many countries in Europe and South America. A highlight of their travels was that twice Dorothy and Bill were able to visit the Holy Land and Egypt.
In her later years Dorothy stayed connected with friends and family through many phone calls and social media. Over the past year Dorothy and Bill developed a great group of friends within the OrrVilla Maple Terrace community. Dorothy was a woman whose calling in life was to serve others; she would do anything she could to help those who were in need. Dorothy cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to Bill, surviving are six children, Cindy (Doug) Sidle, Dave (Alona) Shoup, Dean (Susan) Shoup, Jenny (John Paul) Shoup Lloyd-Clare, Douglas (Diane) Shoup, and Don (Jody) Shoup; seventeen grandchildren, Jared Sidle, Jonathan (Jessica) Sidle, Jillian (Darrell) Mosley, Sara Shoup, Matt Shoup, Lindsay (Aaron) Tournoux, Elizabeth (Seth) Wilkerson, Katie (fiancé Jason Nussle) Shoup, Chris (fiancé Mary Baker) Shoup, Coulson Lloyd-Clare, Kalee Lloyd-Clare, Ross (Rachel) Shoup, Ellie (Jonathan) Beam, Nessa (Adam) Rehm, Mallory (fiancé Quinn Holcomb) Shoup, Jake (fiancé Alyssa Spicer) Shoup, Joel (fiancé Bethany Starlin) Shoup; 14 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way; four siblings, Wilbur (Betty) Steiner, Bruce (Helen) Steiner, Don (Ruth) Steiner, and Judy (Bill) Miller; sister-in-law, Jean Steiner; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Tilden (Mary) Steiner, Mary (Lester) Horner, Hazel (Richard) Smucker, Myrtle (Edward) Zahner, and Clarence “Bud” Steiner.
Friends may call on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm or on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm at Orrville Christian Church, 925 North Elm Street, Orrville.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, at the church, with Pastor John Mulpas and Pastor Tom Ledford officiating. Burial will take place at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
