ORRVILLE — Lawrence Thomas “Larry” Croskey, age 78, of Orrville, died Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Wooster Community Hospital in Wooster, following a long battle with cancer.
Larry was born on December 3, 1944, in Wooster, to the late Clyde and Emma (Hoover) Croskey, graduated from Orrville High School in 1964, and worked in various positions for Smith Dairy in Orrville for 52 years, ending as a Route Supervisor, and retiring in 2016. He also worked part-time in circulation at the Courier Crescent and as a Wayne County Deputy Sheriff. Larry married Susan Hall on May 8, 1982, in Orrville and she survives.
He was a member of Orrville Grace Brethren Church. His relationship with Christ was his stronghold, and he shared his faith continually. Larry was a multi-sport former athlete and loved coaching for the Orrville Red Riders. He coached for over 17 years and is credited with starting youth pitch baseball and the OHS weight lifting program. In 2017 he was honored as an Orrville Sports Hall of Fame Inductee. Larry enjoyed fishing, arrowhead and mushroom hunting, and sporting events, especially watching the Cleveland Browns. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and watching their many events.
In addition to his wife, Susan Croskey, he is survived by four children, Nathan (Ashley) Croskey of Dalton, Kelly (Kyle) Tobias, Kimberly (Mike) Shoup, and Doug (April) Croskey all of Orrville; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Carter Croskey, Karson, Kolton and Emma Tobias, Aiden, Addison and Adam Shoup, and Blake, Hannah and Alyssa Croskey; two brothers, Frank and Cliff Croskey, both of Orrville; and his good buddy and brother-in-law, Stephen Hall of Apple Creek.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Richard, Robert, Elizabeth, Evelyn, Shirley, and Gloria.
Friends may call at Orrville Grace Brethren Church, 2200 Paradise Road, Orrville, on Sunday, January 8, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Monday, January 9, 2023, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, at Orrville Grace Brethren Church, with Pastor Ike Graham officiating. Burial will take place at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville.
