WHAT’S THE BUZZ? DMS spelling bee winner to go on to Wayne County Spelling Bee

Twenty-one students grades 6-8 participated in the annual spelling bee at Dalton Middle School last month. Teacher Jessica Matz said it was nice to have the spelling bee in front of a live student audience again after having to modify the event the past couple of years because of the health pandemic.

For the first time after a couple of years because of the pandemic, Dalton Middle School was able to host a school spelling bee with the student body in attendance instead of having the event live-streamed to the rest of the school.

Twenty-one students grades 6-8 participated, said teacher Jessica Matz, and they worked hard to prepare for the academic event.

“It was nice to have the spelling bee with a live student audience again,” Matz said. She said a group of students would come in at recess and practice. Pauli won in the 11th round on the word “acrid.”

Wenger and Nussbaum went three more rounds to determine Wenger as the runner-up on the word “pioneered.”
