Ronald Dean Fike, 88
WOOSTER — Ronald Dean Fike, age 88, of Wooster, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Smithville Western Care Center in Wooster, following a period of declining health.
Ron was born on July 22, 1934, in Smithville, to Frank and Daisie (Gray) Fike. Ron graduated from Smithville High School in 1952, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Ashland University in 1956, where he also played basketball. Ron and his wife Ruth L. Donaldson whom he married on July 25th, 1953, in Smithville would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this July.
He worked as a business teacher at Waynedale High School for eight years and then began his own business, Ron Fike Insurance, presently known as Fike Advisors, which he ran with his family for 56 years, retiring in 2017.
Ron was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Orrville and also served on the Board of Pensions and as a Lay Delegate for the Northeast Ohio United Methodist Conference. He was a founding member of the Wooster Exchange Club and a former Exchange Club District President. He loved playing sports all of his life, including fast pitch softball, tennis and golf. He enjoyed camping, boating, vacationing with his family, and loved engaging in the lives of his grandchildren. Ron and Ruth’s favorite spot was Siesta Key, Florida, where they vacationed for over 40 years.
In addition to his wife, Ruth Fike, he is survived by his son, Brad (Paula) Fike of Wooster; daughter, Karen (Howard Miller) Henderson of Wooster; four grandchildren, Josh (Lisa) Henderson of Orrville, Evan Henderson of Chicago, IL, Taylor (Torrey) Fike of Orrville, and Adriana Fike of Lynchburg, VA; four great grandchildren, Connor and Kinley Henderson, and Oliver and Theodore Fike; and a sister, Shirley Hummel of Wooster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jerry Fike.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 29th, at Living Water Community Church, 200 N. Kurzen Road, Dalton, with Pastor Mark Hirst (great nephew) officiating. In lieu of calling hours, there will be a light meal following the service. Burial will take place privately, and prior to the service, at Smithville Cemetery.
