CLUB NEWS: Dalton Garden Club kicks off new year after busy fall

By DAVIDA HAMSHER

DALTON  The Dalton Garden Club members have been so involved there has been little time to submit an article!

In November, several members participated in the Regional meeting at the Wilderness Center. Our club was responsible for the continental breakfast and table favors. Of course, those favors had to be created, and at our local meeting, we made votives for electric candles by Mod Podging fall napkins to mason jars. A raffle basket was also assembled to be placed with those offered by the other clubs in the region. Three members participated in the flower show with ribbons earned. Marie Septer was asked to make the arrangement for the exhibition display, and Davida Hamsher came away with a winning raffle basket.

The club prepared three raffle “baskets” for the Dalton Holiday Festival. It has become a tradition to share the table with three baskets assembled by the festival committee and the proceeds are split 50/50. Thanks to the community and visitors, it was very much a success.

The proceeds earned from these raffle baskets enable us to support a local family who needs a boost for Christmas. This year, we were able to add gift cards, toys and clothing for that family’s Christmas. It is a joy to give.

Club meetings have been changed to the second Thursday of each month to better accommodate our membership. It is our hope that others may find this day more convenient to join us either as visitors or members.

Our January meeting was at the Dalton Library with Marie Septer holding a mini-training in flower arranging. Garden club is so much more than flower arranging as our year’s program includes a guest sharing about native herb gardening, a May Day activity, sharing with residents at Shady Lawn, a road trip to Groovy Plants in Marengo, Ohio, perennials, and the Highway-Buyway sales in August. It is fun though to enter designs at the Wayne County Fair in September with the hope of earning a colorful ribbon – blue is a favorite!
