William Martin Forrer Sr., 92

Dalton — William Martin Forrer Sr., age 92, of Dalton, died Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Aultman Orrville Hospital, following a period of declining health.
William was born on February 14, 1930, in Wayne County, Ohio, to the late William and Mary (Lehman) Forrer and served as a Sergeant in a M.A.S.H. unit in the United States Army during Korean War. While serving William got the opportunity to shake hands with General McArthur.  He married his wife Elaine G. Schafer of almost 70 years on February 14, 1953, in Wooster, OH. Elaine survives.
He worked as a Carpenter for C.A. King & Son for 30 + years, retiring in 1990.
William was a member of VFW Post 3446, American Legion Post 282, St. Agnes Catholic Church, and the Wayne County Sheriff Reserve. He enjoyed going hunting and fishing with his boys. Elaine and him enjoyed traveling after retirement by going to Florida every winter. During the summers would go camping at Berlin Reservoir and in Pennsylvania with there house trailer.
Surviving are two sons, William M. (Valerie) Forrer Jr. of Orrville, and Rodney M. (Carolyn) Forrer of Marshallville; daughter, Kathy (Dennis) Kent of Burbank; seven grandchildren, Pam, Aubree, Courtney, Devyn, Kevin, Justin, and Travis; four great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Charlie, Asher, and Monroe; and sister, Marty Miller of Orrville.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Orren Reed, George Forrer, John Forrer, and Ralph Forrer; sisters, Ruth Linhoss, and Mary Messenger.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday March 17, 2023, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 541 Spring Street, Orrville, with Pastor Ronald J. Turek officiating. Burial of ashes will take place at the Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster with military honors.
