Larry Lehman, 81

Larry Lehman, 81, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on February 18, 2023, surrounded
by family. He went to be with the Lord after a long, tiring battle with a rare form of muscular
dystrophy. Larry was born near Kidron, Ohio on February 5, 1942, to the late Sylvester and Martha
(Bixler) Lehman. He grew up in a farming family, the seventh of twelve children. Larry attended
Dalton High School and participated in choir, play production, and Future Farmers of America. He
left the family farm in Kidron to serve as an orderly at the Voluntary Service Unit at La Junta
Mennonite Hospital in La Junta, Colorado, and later moved to nearby Rocky Ford. He was married
to Kay Gingrich from 1965 to 1991, and they had two sons – Mike and Ned. During his early
professional career, Larry was a sales representative for several orthopedic equipment companies,
achieving a variety of sales awards and establishing business relationships with orthopedic
physicians throughout southern Colorado. In 1975, he moved his family from Rocky Ford to
Colorado Springs to continue his career in orthopedic equipment sales. After many years working
in medical sales, Larry went into business for himself as a contractor, specializing in construction
and home repair services. He continued this business into his mid-70s, until his health no longer
allowed him to work. Larry was known for his hard-working nature, generosity, and hearty sense
of humor. He enjoyed building and fixing things, always tinkering with multiple projects. He was
skilled at creating woodwork from scratch and was always thinking about the finished items as
special gifts for friends and family. He enjoyed Saturday morning breakfast with the men from
church, listening to gospel music, and the occasional game of dominos or a puzzle.
Larry is survived by his son Mike (Lynn) Lehman of Puyallup WA; son Ned (Pam) Lehman of Parker
CO; siblings Ruth (Roy) Bontrager, Don (Ruth) Lehman, Jenelle (Gerald) Gould, Carol (Ed)
Burkholder, Geraldine Mumaw, and Beth (David) Wiebe; sister-in-law Phyllis Lehman;
grandchildren Joshua (Richelle) Lehman, Jordan (Logan) Lehman, Jacob (Emily) Lehman, James
Lehman, Joseph Lehman, Cole Lehman, Alexandra (Eric) Siemens, Carly Lehman, and Emma
Lehman; and great-grandchild Lakoda Lehman. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters Florine
Yoder and Doris Cartwright; and brothers Merlin Lehman, Elton Lehman, and David Lehman. The
celebration of life service will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Woodmen Valley
Chapel (Stone Chapel), 290 E Woodmen Rd, Colorado Springs. The family requests donations in
support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, in lieu of sending flowers.
