Richard “Dick” E. Dorffer, 87
Richard “Dick” E. Dorffer, age 87, of Dalton, formerly of Massillon, died unexpectedly on
Friday, February 24, 2023 at Wooster hospital surrounded by his family.
Dick was born on November 21, 1935 in Massillon, Ohio to the late Joseph E. and Ruth
E. (Franz) Dorffer. He graduated from Massillon Washington High School in 1954. After
high school, he was a member of the U.S. Army, stationed in Korea rebuilding homes.
He married Margaret “Peg” V. (Jeandrevin) on June 22, 1957 at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Massillon.
Dick loved going to their cabin in Indian River, Michigan. He was a master craftsman
building multiple homes and furnishings for his family. He was a loving father that
instilled hard work and the love of ice cream to all of his children (and grandchildren,
and great grandchildren.) He followed the Cleveland Indians/Guardians and attended
many sporting events for Dalton Athletics and his family. He was a member of St. Agnes
Catholic Church and a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wooster. Dick
and Peg were long time members and hosts for Compassionate Friends, a small group
for those grieving the loss of a child.
Surviving are: children Kathy (Paul) Macko, Diana (Frank) Lecon, Peggy (Roger)
Redman, JoAnn (Brad) Gerber, Richard (Lana) Dorffer, Amy McEwen, Mark (Shelly)
Dorffer, 21 grandchildren, 31.5 great grandchildren, and sister Janet Treisch.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Margaret V. Dorffer, daughter: Jane Dorffer,
sisters: Elvira, Rosella, Dory, Dolores and granddaughter: Lynnette Blizzard.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00am at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 541 Spring
Street, Orrville, with Fr. Ronald J. Turek as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Dalton
Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome at the mass.
The family will be receiving friends from 9:00am until time of the service at the church
on Saturday morning.
