STUDENT SUCCESS: Dalton senior performs at all-state choir in February
Dalton senior Nolan Miller was part of an elite group and performed in Columbus earlier in February with other talented singers selected from throughout the state.
OMEA All State Choir members submitted their auditions last May, Dalton choir director Heather Carr said about the rigorous process. They were selected in September, she said, noting approximately 145 students were selected from all of Ohio regardless of school size.
Once selected, the students are provided with music and rehearsal tracks, and are expected to rehearse on their own, in addition to attending two regional half day rehearsals in the fall and a combined full day rehearsal in January, Carr wrote in an email.
The students came together in Columbus and rehearsed Feb. 1, 2 and 3. Their final concert was at 8 p.m. Feb. 3 in the Columbus Convention Center in conjunction with the OMEA convention.
“It was a packed house, with standing room only, and the performance was met with a standing ovation at the end,” Carr said in the email. “I was lucky enough to be in attendance and it was an AMAZING performance!”
