KILLBUCK SAVINGS BANK CO. SUPERSTAR ON STAFF: Christi Michaels

Christi Michaels
Dalton 5th grade Title teacher

Reason for selection: Mrs. Michaels works hard each day with our students to provide what is best for their needs. She goes out of her way to make sure she is doing her part in providing a quality education
to each of our students. She works well with her team and provides a positive atmosphere for our middle school. We appreciate everything she has done in her first year at DMS!

1. What do you love about working at Dalton Local?
I love working in my community. We moved to Dalton a couple of years ago and it’s the best way to get to know everyone. I also really like working where my kids are students. Being able to have the same schedule and availability to get them to practices off campus after school has been a huge benefit. I also really enjoy working with the other staff and being part of the team.

2. How did you get to where you are today?

I didn’t take the most direct route to being a teacher. I graduated in 2001 from Bluffton University with a preschool-8 certification and then moved to Wayne County to work in voluntary service at Camp Luz. For the next 18 years I worked in several positions including Everence Financial, Orrville Public Library circulation and Orrvilla Maple Terrace. During that time I also was a substitute teacher in Holmes and Wayne County. I found different ways to support learning while trying to fit my families needs. In 2019 I decided to return full time to the classroom and became a teachers assistant with Tri-County Preschool in Smithville. Last year I worked for Chippewa as a district substitute and had planned to do that again this year. However I was very happy to secure a position at Dalton this summer. I never thought I would teach in Middle School because all of my training was with younger kids. However I really enjoy working with students that are independent but still are willing to try new things in learning.

3. Fun facts: I helped to write a book about the history of Camp Luz while I was there. I did research on the founding of camp and all of the computer layout. I really enjoyed getting to talk to a generation of seasoned souls about a place they established. Throughout my years of service I have seen the fruits of their labor.
I love amusement parks. Growing up in Kent my family went to Sea World and Geauga Lake. For the past 4 years my family has had passes to Cedar Point. I am looking forward to heading to different parks this summer with our platinum passes. Riding roller coasters with my family is my favorite thing.
Mr. Steiner, Mrs. Yoh and I all went to the same college around the same time. It has been wonderful getting to work them.
