DALTON  Dan Edwards, assistant varsity football coach, head junior varsity girls basketball coach and math tutor at Dalton High School, was hired at the March 13 Chippewa Local Board of Education meeting to be the new head football coach and full-time intervention specialist.
Edwards said this means that unfortunately he will not be returning to Dalton next year.
The beloved teacher recently was recognized during Staff Appreciation Night put on by Dalton’s varsity girls basketball team at the end of the season. He has several years of coaching experience at Dalton and other schools, including Orrville and East Canton.
“I would like to thank Katie (Miller) and Broc (Dial) for their guidance and expertise over the last 7 years and the Dalton community as a whole for all the support they give the sports programs,” Edwards said in an email. “This is a special place with special people and I’m going to miss it. I am excited to get into the Chippewa district and meet the players, parents, coaches, and staff and build off what Coach (Mike) Bohley has done over the last several years. I’m thankful for the football selection committee and administration that selected me for this position. Go Chipps!”
At the beginning of this year, Mike Bohley, Chippewa’s athletic director, stepped down as head football coach at Chippewa after 10 years there.
