Dalton boys lead pack at tri-meet

Dalton High School’s boys varsity track and field team finished on top April 11 at a tri-meet at home with Waynedale and Norwayne.
The Bulldogs narrowly pushed past the Bears and earned 62 points to Waynedale’s 59 and Norwayne’s 53.
For the girls, Norwayne finished first.
Waynedale’s girls were second and Dalton finished third at the tri-meet.
During the Waynedale and Norwayne tri-meet April 11, Dalton’s boys placed first in the 4×100-m relay, the 4×200-m relay, the 4×400-meter relay and the 4×800-m relay. In the field events, Jarrett Hofstetter came in first and Jace Eberly placed second in the long jump.
For the girls, Dalton won the 4×100-m relay, the 4×200-m relay, the 4×400-m relay and the 4×800-m relay. Grace Dorffer placed second in the long jump.
Later in the week both Bulldogs teams showed their strength at the Orrville Invitational April 15. The girls team had several high points in the meet. Senior Lauren Clos won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.9. Fellow senior Brianna Chenevey finished first in the 200-m dash at 25.9. Emberlynn Nolt came in third place in the 1600-m run with a time of 5:49.6.
Junior Macy Seeman won the 100-m hurdles at 17.1. The 4×100-m relay team of Courtney Weaver, Clos, Seeman and Chenevey came in first at 50.5. The same team also won the 4×200-m relay with a time of 1:47.9. Dalton finished fourth in the girls team standings.
Dalton sophomore Sam Tomlinson won the boys 100-m dash at 11.6. Junior Kanoa Hevia took the top spot in the 200-m dash with a time of 23.5. Sophomore Cameron Gazboda finished second in the 400-m dash at 53.0. Sophomore Ely Hutson came in third place in the 300-m hurdles with a time of 44.0. The 4×200-m relay team of Colin Pearson, Tomlinson, Gazboda and Hevia finished second at 1:34.6. Brendan Lehman, Jace Eberly, Gazboda and Hevia made up the 4×400-m relay team that came in second place with a time of 3:41.7. Dalton came in third place in the boys team standings.
Waynedale track and field
The Waynedale Girls Track Team competed April 11 against Dalton and Norwayne in the tri-meet at Dalton, according to a post on Waynedale Athletics on Facebook. The scores were: Norwayne- 99.5; Waynedale- 40.5; and Dalton- 35.
The following Bears scored in their respective events: Faith Brown- 3rd shot put, 3rd- 3rd discus; Skye Morris- 2nd 100 hurdles, 1st- 300 hurdles; Anna Pittman- 2nd pole vault, 2nd 300 hurdles; Nayeli Cruz- 2nd 400M, 4th 200M; Callie Wolfe- 1st long jump; Emery Stahl- 2nd high jump; Mylah Moore- 4th pole vault; Clara Sundberg- 3rd 1600M; 4×800 Relay- 1st place: Clara Sundberg, Allison Moore, Sydney Reber, and Jorjia Persinger; 4x 400 Relay- 2nd place: Skye Morris, Jorjia Persinger, Nayeli Cruz, Callie Wolfe
The Waynedale Boys Track and Field Team competed April 11 against Dalton and Norwayne with the scores being: Dalton- 62; Waynedale- 59; and Norwayne- 53.
