Head to Orrville for National Train Day

Enjoy railroading fun May 13 with the Orrville Railroad Heritage Society as the nonprofit organization celebrates National Train Day.

This year, many activities are at both Orrville locations.

Orrville Union Depot activities 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 13 include local live forger creating items for sale including knives, coat racks, bottle openers, home décor and more. A model railroad flea market and toy train show will be held around the depot grounds. Inside the depot there will be operating “O” and “HO” scale layouts. For the first-time, ORHS is proud to host the “Suitcase” Guy! The Depot Gift Shop will honor coupons worth $2 off a minimum purchase of $10. At the same time, ORHS will kick off its first-ever Toys for Tots Drive in conjunction with support from Norfolk Southern Corporation and the USMC Reserves.

The Orrville Union Depot Museum is at 145 Depot St., Orrville.

ORHS Rail Yard National Train Day activities include: the ever-popular “Speeder Rides” from 10 a.m.-noon based upon demand. Train rides in open-air car #501 and the vintage Phanton window coach #208 will run at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. All rides are first-come/first-served. Ticket prices for this event are: Speeders $5/ticket ($6/ticket if paying with credit/debit card) adult or child. Train ride tickets are discounted THIS DAY ONLY to $10 for the open-air Car #501 and $15 for Car #208 (additional fee for credit/debit card). Tickets for rides are only available at the rail yard at 2174 S Crownhill Road.
