Maxine Sommerfeldt, 91

Marshallville — Maxine Sommerfeldt, age 91, of Marshallville, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023, at her home in Marshallville surrounded by her family, following a period of declining health.
Maxine was born on November 19, 1931, in Marshallville, Ohio, to the late Harry and Ellen (Lance) Werntz and graduated from Dalton High School in 1949. She married Arthur Sommerfeldt on March 23, 1951, in Marshallville.
She worked hard to make her house a home for her family. Later after the kids were all in school she worked for J.M. Smucker and Rubbermaid as a laborer.
Maxine was a member of Marshallville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, and crocheting. Most of all she cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandkids, great grandkids, and great great grandkids.
In addition to her husband, Arthur, surviving are four daughters, Deborah (Richard) Peters, Phyllis Brubaker, Cheryl (Dale) Goff, and Karen (Vince) Steiner; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, including her special niece, Evelyn Kay Kirkpatrick.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Richard Dale Werntz, Sr., Harry “Jiggs” Werntz, and Howard “Don” Werntz; sister, Helen Shidler; and grandson, Jeffrey Bennett.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Marshallville United Methodist Church, 18 N. Main St., Marshallville, with Rev. Ron Shultz officiating.
