Clarence Wayne DeVore, 83
Clarence Wayne DeVore, age 83, of Orrville, passed away Tuesday May 9, 2023 at Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare in Wooster, following a period of declining health.
Clarence was a lifelong resident of Ohio, born on June 30, 1939 in Rush Twp, Tuscarawas County. He went to school and grew up in Deersville. Later, he lived much of his life in Dennison before moving to Orrville. Clarence was the son of the late Clarence Francis and Erma Fae (Tolbert) DeVore.
Clarence worked hard all of his life as an owner-operator truck driver. His career began at age 15 by special permit to provide for his other family members when his dad became injured. Beginning in 1965, Clarence progressed from one new dump truck to another throughout his life until he retired in 2008. Initially they were straight-trucks which later transitioned to tractor-trailer semis. Many of his trucker buddies called him by his CB handle “Big Red.” Clarence performed most of his own truck repair and maintenance. He loved to fix all kinds of mechanical things including lawn mowers and bicycles. He also loved antique cars and attended many antique-car shows and parades. At one time, he owned a 1929 Model A Ford sedan and a 1939 Ford coupe. In addition, he enjoyed watching motorsports such as tractor pulling, drag racing, and stockcar racing.
Clarence has been married to his loving wife Sara Jane (Page) DeVore for 58 years. They were married on March 5, 1965.
Clarence is survived by his wife Sara and son Gerald of the home. In addition, he is survived by a daughter Dee Basiletti by a previous marriage and a nephew Rob (Sally) Murry.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and sister Clarice (Bob) Murry.
In keeping with his wishes, Clarence has been buried at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville with a private family graveside service. Pastor Don Bolich officiated.
