1. What do you love about working at Dalton Local?
I love going to Dalton Elementary everyday because my day always starts with smiles and warm, genuine greetings from all of the staff. When students arrive, they greet me with smiles, high fives, and hugs. I really enjoy the opportunity to teach in all the grades and that no 2 days are the same. Being part of a staff that strives everyday to make a difference to each student and supports and cares about each other is very gratifying.
2. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always wanted to be a teacher. After graduating from Kent State with a degree in Physical Education and Health, I taught several years at various colleges. While teaching at Cleveland State, I took a part-time job at The American Red Cross teaching CPR and First Aid.
After 23 years of teaching there, my responsibilities changed and teaching was no longer my main responsibility. I next took a job working in a nursing home in the activities department.
When COVID hit, again my responsibilities changed. I began teaching staff at Midwest Health Services. After several years of teaching there, I learned about the opportunity to be a long term substitute at Dalton Elementary.
Miss Marthey, the principal and I have known each other for many years. Knowing her work ethic, integrity, and leadership skills, I knew she would be a great person to work with and for. Coming from Smithville, I had always competed against Dalton; now I am proud to say, “I am a Bulldog!”
3. Please share an interesting little known fact about yourself:
One little fact about myself is that I collect Garfields.
