Stephen F. (Steve) Handwerk, 76

ORRVILLE — Stephen F. (Steve) Handwerk passed away on May 21, 2023 in Wooster, Ohio after a period of declining health.
He was born November 18, 1946, to Ruth (Flint) and Walter Handwerk in Orrville, attended Orrville City Schools and graduated in 1965.  He played football all four years of high school.  After high school Steve attended Franklin University and graduated with a BS in English.  He then went on to earn his Masters at Kent State.
Steve’s first teaching job was at Waynedale where he taught English and coached track, football, and wrestling.  He later taught at Triway where he coached football and was head track coach for many years.  Steve also coached track at Orrville and taught at Wayne College/Akron U.
To supplement his teaching income he started his own painting company, Handwerk Painting.  He employed several other teachers one being his brother, Dave, who painted with him for many years.  He took his son Matt, step son Jayson, and  nephews Adam and CJ on during their summer breaks from high school, and even during their college years. There are many wonderful, funny stories of the painting days, and they are still laughed at around the dinner table to this day.  “Boss Man” will never be forgotten.
Steve leaves behind two sons, Stephen (Danny Kinniburgh) Handwerk and Matt (Shelley) Frost; step-son, Jayson Lindsey; granddaughter, Taylor Frost; his brother, Dave (Nancy) Handwerk; nephews, Adam (Lacey) Handwerk, CJ (Crystal) Handwerk,  Todd (Melissa) Bailey, Tim (Cathey) Bailey, and Marc (Suzanne) Zody; and nieces, Heather (Colon) Lewis and Tracie (Michael Vlack) Zody.
His parents and sister, Kathleen Bailey, preceded him in death.
