HS TRACK & FIELD: Dalton’s Chenevey shatters records

Another meet, another broken record.
That has been the theme for Dalton High School’s track and field team this season and the May 5 Dwight Schar Invitational was no exception.
Senior Brianna Chenevey set a new meet and school record in the girls 400-meter dash, which she won in 57.17. The previous Dalton record for the event was set in 1986. Chenevey also won the 100-m dash with a time of 12.50 and her senior teammate Lauren Clos came in second at 12.94. Clos also won the 200-m dash at 27.03.
Junior Macy Seeman finished third in the 100-m hurdles at 16.65.
In the boys events, junior Kanoa Hevia won the 200-m dash with a time of 23.47.
Dalton’s 4×200-m relay team of Sam Tomlinson, Colin Pearson, Cameron Gazboda and Hevia took first place with a time of 1:23.13. Senior Brendan Lehman placed second in the 300-m hurdles with a time of 43.10 and sophomore Ely Hutson finished third in the event at 43.70.
Senior Quentin Lehman was second in discus with a distance of 154’ 5”.
Waynedale
The Golden Bears’ Skye Morris achieved a new school record in the 300 Meter hurdles. She broke her own record she set last year with a time of 48.26, according to a post on Waynedale Athletics Facebook.
Waynedale’s girls track and field team were named 2023 Bob Valentine Invite track and field champions at the Invite at Hillsdale.

Waynedale boys track and field team was named runnerup at the Bob Valentine Invite at Hillsdale in a field of 13 teams. Those scoring for the Bears included: Jeremy Reber: 1st- 100 hurdles, 1st- 300 hurdles, 4th- 200m dash, 4th- long jump; Brant Herman: 2nd- shot put, 2nd- discus; Nick St John: 2nd- 800m run; Jackson Varner: 2nd- 3200m run, 4th- 1600m run; Connor Reich: 3rd- 800m run; Ian Sarver: 3rd- shot put; Caden Herman: 4th- discus; Jaydon Varner: 4th- 3200m run, 8th- 1600m run; Dylan Adams: 6th- high jump, 7th- 400m run; Kolton Miller: 7th- long jump; Marquel Troyer: 8th- pole vault; 4×800 Relay- 1st place (Reich, St John, Jackson Varner, Wyatt Moore); 4×400 Relay- 4th place (St John, Reich, Troyer, Garet Hummer); 4×200 Relay- 6th place (Troyer, Hummer, Rollin Hendrix, Josh Dawson); 4×100 Relay- 7th place (Hendrix, Hummer, Miller, Dawson).
