What do you love about working at Dalton Local Schools?
I love working with the students–math class, tutoring, coaching or in whatever capacity is needed. I enjoy the daily grind of learning –it’s rewarding to watch students grow and mature in their learning, confidence and in relationship and communication with each other. Middle schoolers are a fun and entertaining bunch. No two days are ever the same!
How did you get where you are today?
I graduated with my teaching degree from Bluffton College and taught at Norwayne Middle School for 21 years before teaching at Dalton the last few years. My high school trigonometry teacher, Mrs. Kay Bergen, marched into my study hall and declared I had more study halls than necessary for a senior and that I was now appointed as the teaching assistant of her freshman math class. Though reluctant at first, I soon grew to love working and teaching math with Mrs. Bergen and she served as a fantastic educational mentor to me. She shaped my future.
Please share an interesting little known fact about yourself.
It’s hard to beat a morning that starts with a unicycle ride at sunrise, and disc golf is a great way to spend a day. A bad day of disc golf is still a good day!
