The spotlight is holding steady on the Waynedale Golden Bears baseball team.

The Bears returned to the OHSAA Div. III state finals June 10 at Canal Park in Akron and won 10-1 over Harrison Central to keep their state champion crown. The Bears also won the state championship in 2022. The community was invited to the school to meet the team that night to celebrate when they returned.

Earlier, the Bears won the state semifinal 6-2 over the Ottawa Hills Green Bears. Waynedale finished the season 24-9.

Last year, the team made history winning the Golden Bears’ first-ever state title in baseball. They beat the Milan Edison Chargers 2-1 in eight innings. Before the 2022 game, a Wayne County team hadn’t won a state baseball championship in 56 years.
