DGKN staff report

KIDRON Volunteers on the Kidron Fire Department will be cooking up more chicken halves than ever before.

It has become a tradition for local residents as well as others to travel in from far and wide every year to line up for the annual Kidron Volunteer Fire Department Chicken Barbecue. They love beautifully grilled chicken with KVFD’s own secret sauce, and they love to support their local fire department.

The 66th annual event will be Tuesday, Aug. 1 at Kidron Park, 4434 Kidron Road. Meals will be served beginning at 4:30 p.m. Sides for the meal are chips, applesauce, a dinner roll and a cookie. Drive-thru chicken only will be available at Central Christian High School beginning at 3:30 p.m.

This year, 6,200 chicken halves will be grilled, according to information provided by Chelsea Schlabach, EMT for the fire department. Chicken halves and meals are by donation and the proceeds will benefit the Kidron Volunteer Fire Department.

Musical entertainment will be provided by County Line Band from 6 to 7 p.m. and Broadway from 7-8 p.m.

Other activities available include pony rides and a kiddie tractor pull. Lerch’s donuts will be there as well.
