Paul F. Nickles, 94
Paul F. Nickles, 94, of Canton and formerly of West Lebanon, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, at the Canton Christian Home.
He was born in West Lebanon on December 21, 1928, to the late John W. and Stella (Ricksecker) Nickles and married Maralyn M. Beck on November 1, 1947. She died April 7, 2004. Paul then married Jean Bartolet on October 27, 2007 until her death March 5, 2023.
He retired from the former Enduro Steel in Massillon following 39 years of service. He then worked for Pinkerton Security for 16 years where he proudly earned the rank of captain.
He is survived by a daughter, Paulette “Bunny” (Bill) Keister of West Lebanon; 3 grandchildren: William F. Keister Jr. of Loudonville, Kelly B. Link of Cuyahoga Falls, and Amanda G. (Michael) Yoder of Wilmot. 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Zana Boals of Dalton.
In addition to his first and second wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Randi Cleveland of Akron and Winterhaven, Florida. Brothers Lawrence, John and William Nickles; a sister, Evelyn Moser; and a great grandson Jaxon Yoder.
Anyone who met him would agree that his compassion and empathy knew no bounds. Most recently he was full time caretaker of his wife Jean up until she entered Canton Christian Home during fall 2022. He nursed his first wife Maralyn back to health after a devastating broken back during a vacation in Washington D.C. An avid athlete, he once scored 29 of 32 points for Paint Township High School basketball team. Most interestingly, he forwent signing a contract with MLB Team the St. Louis Cardinals and chose to stay home in Ohio to take care of his mother with cancer. He takes with him the title “Top Bingo Player” at CCH.
Friends may call on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 6-8:00 pm at the Spidell Funeral Home in Mount Eaton. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am in the chapel at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Massillon with Pastor Ruthann Bosley officiating.
