Orrville man faces murder charges in woman’s death

ORRVILLE  An Orrville man faces murder charges in his girlfriend’s death.

Shaun Ross, 42, of Orrville, led police on a manhunt for several hours before being arrested at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 in the area of Church Road between state Route 57 and Kansas Road.

Jessica Duprey, 39, was found dead at a residence in the 200 block of Chateau Circle at around 3 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19. Orrville Police Department responded to the residence for a report of an unconscious female with lacerations to her neck, according to an OPD news release. Her mother, who resides at the same address, told police that her daughter and her boyfriend had been involved in a physical altercation. She identified the boyfriend as Ross who had fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle. When police arrived they found the woman had died. Officers recovered a bloody knife at the scene believed to be the murder weapon, the news release states. The vehicle was later found in the 300 block of Sassafras Street. A K9 unit conducted a search of the area near the residence where the vehicle was found, but Ross was not located.

At around 6:30 a.m., Orrville PD initiated a manhunt in the southern part of Orrville for Ross. The search was expanded beyond the city limits and assistance was requested from the Ohio Highway Patrol Aerial unit, troopers, Medway Drug Enforcement Agency and Wooster Police Department. People were told Ross was considered armed and dangerous and to call 911 if they saw him.

After several hours of searching, a resident on Church Road, between state Route 57 and Kansas Road, contacted authorities to report a man who matched the description of Ross was walking down his driveway, the release states. Officers, with guidance from the OSHP Aerial Unit, swiftly converged on the area, and Ross was apprehended at approximately 10:30 a.m., according to a release.

Ross was transported from the scene to the Orrville Police Department, where he later confessed to investigators, the news release states. Ross was in custody Sept. 19, according to a news release, and was set to be transferred to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office to face charges related to the death of Jessica Duprey.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification processed the crime scene. The Wayne County Coroner’s Office assisted with the investigation.
