Harold H. “Coop” Cooper, 85

Smithville — Harold H. “Coop” Cooper, age 85, of Smithville, died Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Danbury Senior Living Wooster, following a long period of declining health.
Harold was born on August 17, 1938, in Wooster, to the late Samuel and Hazel (Houmard) Cooper, attended Smithville High School, and served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959.  He married Elizabeth Ann Turner on September 25, 1960, at the Church of Christ in Orrville, now known as Orrville Christian Church. Elizabeth died on October 28, 2022, after 62 wonderful years.
He worked as a truck driver for 63 years, primarily for Frito-Lay and Ashland Oil, retiring in 2014.  He continued to drive part-time in his retirement for John Tschiegg and enjoyed volunteering as a driver for CAMO.
Harold  was a member of Orrville Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and delivered communion to home-bound members.  He was also a member of The Elks Club in Wooster and the Teamsters Union.  He enjoyed trap-shooting, bowling, mowing the lawn, gardening and travel.  He also enjoyed breaking horses in his younger years.  He loved sports, reading, watching westerns, and helping others.  Most of all he loved watching his grandchildren in their many events.
Surviving are four daughters, Michelle L. Krall of Canal Fulton, Lisa K. (Michael) Ammon of Smithville, Deb S. (Don) Musser of Orrville, and Deanna L. (Timothy) Grose of Wooster; nine grandchildren, Heather (Eric) Geyer, Amber Krall, Shawna (Tim) Mathew, Megan (Michael) Benchoff, Zachary Ammon, Brandon Ammon, Sean (Hayley) Krall, Alexus (Danny) Crowder, Hunter Marcus; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Kelley of Millersburg; and a brother, Carl Cooper of Wooster.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, John Krall; and sisters, Joanne Hockenberry, Jane McDermott, and Ginny Merritt.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Orrville Christian Church, 925 North Elm Street, Orrville, with Pastor Tom Ledford officiating. Burial will take place at the Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster, where military rites will be observed.
Friends may call on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Wednesday, prior to the service at the church, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am.
The family would like to extend their great appreciation for the care and compassion extended to Harold and his family by the staffs at Danbury in Wooster and Ohio’s Hospice LifeCare.
