Donald C. Hauenstein, 88

Donald C. Hauenstein

DALTON – Donald C. Hauenstein, age 88, passed away on January 25, 2024.

Born on the family farm in Dalton on February 21, 1935 to the late Carl O. and Wilma (Edie) Hauenstien, Donald graduated from Dalton High School and was a life resident of the Dalton area. He retired as a truck driver from Buckeye Feed Mill after 42 years of service. He had also ran the family farm, raising hogs and beef cattle since 1963. The farm was a lifelong passion. A member of Dalton Presbyterian Church and Sugar Creek Township Grange, Donald enjoyed bowling in his earlier years. He enjoyed gardening and his orchard, and he loved to feed the birds.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Harold Hauenstein, and sister, Lavonne Speicher. Donald is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth “Liz” (Muncy) Hauenstein; children, Carol, Scott (Linda), and Robin Hauenstein, all of Dalton; grandchildren, Sarah and Curtis Hauenstein; sister, Fae (Harley) Gerber; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

Our father taught us the value of hard work and being fair and honest. Dad always made sure the animals were cared for before family time commenced. Saturdays were the time for catching up on all farm work, and Sundays were strictly family days, for church and visiting. In retirement, Dad and Mom enjoyed more gardening and visiting with friends. He could be seen driving around the farm, first on his Oliver 550, and then in later years, his beloved Cub Cadet, with a plastic bucket on the back, to pick up anything he needed or gathered from a garden. Dad loved listening to gospel music and reading and watching anything related to agriculture.

A private graveside service will be held by the family at Dalton Cemetery. A memorial service and carry-in meal (Dad loved those, and reunions) will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the Dalton Presbyterian Church, 163 W. Main St., Dalton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Dr. Suite E, Uniontown, OH 44685 or Dalton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 306, Dalton, OH 44618.
