DALTON A nice crowd came out for the fourth annual Janine Ramer Memorial Softball Game put on by Dalton All Sports Booster Club and the schedule for the evening was packed with music, activities, food and fun.
Youth softball players were warming up the crowd July 28 before the sky turned dark and rain began to fall. A tornado warning was issued and the event was forced to be canceled.
Cliff and Cortney Staley, co-presidents of the Dalton All Sports Booster Club, posted on the Dalton All Sports Booster Club Facebook page about the game being canceled and fireworks being rescheduled and announced winners of the basket raffle.
The Staleys said they were grateful to the players, volunteers, vendors, sponsors, and fans for making the event special. They said to keep an eye on the Dalton All Sports Booster Club page for an official announcement for when fireworks will be rescheduled.
“We want to thank everyone for taking time out of their night to join us for the event. Although weather did not cooperate we still had a great time and the community showed up in full force!
“At this time we are working on rescheduling the fireworks for after the first home football game on Aug. 22 at the Dalton High School.”

The tornado caused minor damage to structures and trees, including a tree that was blown onto a mobile home and visible twisting of tree tops behind the house. As the tornado moved northeast, another tree was blown onto power lines east of Route 3, and several large limbs fell onto a car cover in the same area.
The post shows the Northern Wayne County tornado occurred 6:58-7 p.m. and estimated peak winds were 75 miles per hour. Path length was 0.73 miles and maximum width was 25 yards. No injuries or deaths were reported.
