AREA NEWS: Troopers investigate fleeing Georgia fugitive who hid in tree in Ashland County
MONTGOMERY TWP. Troopers are investigating an incident involving a fleeing fugitive, according to a news release from the Ohio Highway Patrol.
A 2003 Infiniti FX35 SUV was northbound on Interstate-71 near Mile Post 188 in Ashland County, and was pulled over for a speeding violation at about 7:25 p.m. Monday. The vehicle, driven by Kaylinn C. Green, 22 of Houston, Texas, pulled over onto the left shoulder, median side.
As the trooper was speaking with the driver, the right front passenger, Demetrius Allen Wright, 27 of Cairo, Georgia, opened the door, exited the vehicle and ran across all three lanes of I-71, the release states.
Wright ran into a wooded area east of I-71 where he hid for approximately two hours, according to the release.
With the assistance of the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and K-9 unit, the State Patrol’s Aviation section, and the State Patrol’s Special Response Team, Wright was located hiding up in a tree. He was apprehended and taken into custody without further incident. Wright has an active felony warrant for burglary out of De Land, Florida. The incident is still currently under investigation and charges for Wright are pending.
