How We Hear, a local nonprofit organization that was founded several years ago by Ava Martinez, who graduated last month from Dalton High School, awarded five scholarships this spring to seniors at five different schools in Wayne County.

Each year, Martinez is able to offer more college scholarships to graduating seniors. This year’s scholarship amount totaled $8,500.

Scholarship recipients are: Riley Berg, from Dalton High School, $2,500; Evelyn Legg, from Triway High School, Hannah Baker from Smithville High School, Madison Schroer from Wooster and Tamar Walton from Northwestern, each received $1,500.

How We Hear aims to educate and raise awareness about auditory processing disorder and also raises funds to help purchase electronic devices, provide scholarships and offer other assistance to local students. For more information, visit howwehear.org.
