Dalton, Waynedale, Central Christian basketball kick off seasons

Dalton High School’s varsity boys basketball team started the season with a loss to Hiland. They later faced Smithville for the first game of league competition, which resulted in a loss for the Dawgs. Dalton has an overall record of 0-2 and a WCAL record of 0-1.

The Dawgs fell to host Hiland 48-43 Nov. 29. Both teams kept it close throughout the game with Dalton holding a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Hawks went on to score 15 points in the quarter to pull away for the win. Senior Jack Steiner scored 15 points for Dalton. Fellow senior Braden Fiesler added eight points. Sophomore Brady Hignight finished with 11 points.

Dalton traveled to Smithville Dec. 2 for their first WCAL matchup of the season. The Smithies won 51-42. The Dawgs once again found themselves in a tight race heading into the final quarter, but they could not take over the lead as Smithville extended the deficit to go on for the win. Steiner led Dalton with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists. Junior Keller McFarren scored 10 points.

Central Christian School
Central won the season-opening game on the road against Rittman 49-38 Nov. 29. Richard Carr led the Comets with 15 points. Thatcher Rohrer added 12 points. Drew Badertscher scored eight points. Bryan Martin and Lyle Endsley both had six points each. Silas Coleman scored two points.
CCS fell to host Lucas 52-34 Dec. 2 for their first MBC game. Martin put up 11 points. Badertscher added six points. Richard Carr finished with five points, while Rohrer had four points. Ruben Carr and Coleman both scored three points each. Endsley had two points.

Waynedale basketball
Waynedale’s boys varsity basketball team topped Tuslaw 62-42 Nov. 29 in the season opener.
The Lady Bears won over Orrville Nov. 28 with a score of 48-29. JV also won. The Lady Bears went on to win against Chippewa 48-41. They’re on a roll with a 5-0 overall record.
