Dalton High School’s varsity girls basketball team suffered a tough loss to St. Vincent-St. Mary before taking a win over league opponent Northwestern. The Lady Dawgs have a 2-2 overall record and a 2-0 WCAL record.

Dalton fell to visiting St. Vincent-St. Mary 64-32 on Nov. 28. Ella Lunsford scored seven points, pulled nine rebounds and dished three assists. Sydney Geiser totaled seven points and eight rebounds. Maddy West finished with five points, three boards and two assists. Kendall Maibach ended with five points, four rebounds and one assist. Kylee Johnson scored four points and grabbed five rebounds. Phoebe Lehman had two points, one rebound and one assist. Caroline Chubbuck scored two points.

“SVSM challenged us in many areas,” said Dalton’s head coach Katie Miller. “SVSM has the ability to beat you off the dribble, strong post play inside and the ability to shoot the 3 at a high percentage. We could have done a better job overall. We will get better from the loss.”

The Lady Dawgs defeated Northwestern 52-41 Dec. 1 on the road. Lunsford recorded 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Geiser had a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.

Johnson totaled seven points and two assists. West had six points, five rebounds and four assists.

Maibach finished with five points, five rebounds and two assists. Sarah Witmer added five points, two boards and two assists. Josslyn Reynold scored four points and grabbed four rebounds. Chubbuck scored two points.

“This was a very good road league win for us,” said Miller. “We did a nice job putting together four quarters. Northwestern’s Caydence Scale and Josie Wright have the ability to score a lot of points at a quick rate. We did a good job keeping tabs on them. A great team win for us in league play.”
