VARSITY SOFTBALL: Lady Dawgs streak ends

After going undefeated for the first 11 games of the season, Dalton High School’s varsity softball team experienced its first loss against Northwestern 10-0 at home April 19.
Northwestern put up five runs in the third inning, one run in both the fourth and fifth inning and three more in the seventh. Dalton’s two hits of the game came from a single by Lexi Vazquez in the second inning and a Joey Reynolds single in the fourth. Northwestern’s pitching was too strong to overcome, as the Lady Dawgs struck out 15 times. Ava Fivecoat gave up six earned runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings of work for Dalton. She issued one walk and struck out two hitters. Lauren Falb pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits, issued five walks and recorded one strikeout.
The Lady Dawgs are now 11-1 overall this season.
Central Christian
Central lost to Loudonville 26-3 on the road April 18. The Comets fell to Loudonville 20-2 at home April 19. Neveah Dickens recorded one hit and two RBI. Angela Miller had two hits in the game. Pitcher Micah Kozel-Steiner gave up 20 runs on 17 hits, walked eight hitters and had four strikeouts.
Central was defeated by Fairless 15-5 on the road April 20. Katelyn Miller plated two runs. Kozel-Steiner had four hits, scored two runs and drove in one run. On the mound, she gave up 15 runs on 14 hits, issued four walks and struck out three batters.
